Tussar Silk Banner

Tussar silk is produced from a wide winged moth that is yellowish brown in color and feeds on wild forest. It’s a non-mulberry silk that is also known as “Wild Silk” or “Forest Silk”. Being a non-mulberry silk, it is much cheaper than the traditional silk. Tussar silk is also coarser than mulberry silk and has a dull gold sheen. Weavers sometimes combine this silk with other yarns like cotton and wool to come up with a richer knitted fabric. Though much of it is produced in Bhagalpur in Bihar, it is also produced in states like Jharkhand, Chattisgarh, Bihar, West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh. Tussar silk is lot cooler, porous and breathable than other silk varieties, thereby making it extremely wearable in warmer parts of the country too.
