Sambalpuri sarees are handwoven ikat wherein the warp and weft are tie-dyed manually before it is woven into a saree. It is generally weaved in western districts of Odisha. It is a labour intensive product created with the three shuttle weaving technique and the extra heald shaft design on pit looms. This technique makes these sarees expensive. These sarees are known for their heavily woven pallus and borders in contrasting colours and meaningful designs inspired from the nature and the temples of Odisha. These sarees are available in both silk and cotton varieties.
